- Lightweight aluminium frame & swingarm

Key Features:

- Directly descended from our YZ motocrossers and WR off-road machines—even the original Yamaha YA-1 of 1955—the all-new WR250X is here to make Yamaha’s off-road prowess street accessible.

- Not exactly an enduro, a supermoto or a sportbike, the WR250X is for riders who ride mostly paved surfaces. Its sibling, the off-road inspired WR250R, is for riders who spend more time in the dirt.

- The WR250X achieves fuel economy up to an estimated 71 mpg** with a fuel tank that holds 2 gallons of gas.

2009 Yamaha WR250X Features:

Engine:

Potent, liquid-cooled, 250cc, DOHC, 4-valve, DOHC, 4-stroke powerplant with super light titanium intake valves and electronic fuel injection.

Super convenient electric starting means fast, sure starts.

Hassle free automatic decompression system ensures fast restarts in any gear.

Lightweight magnesium cylinder head cover helps reduce weight.

Double overhead cam, 4-valve combustion chamber features a compact "pent-roof" design for maximum breathing efficiency. Shim under bucket type valve adjustment is used.

Downdraft -type straight design intake port provides the most efficient intake flow for maximum engine performance.

Intake side, lightweight titanium valves and load-reduced springs decrease weight by more than 40% (Vs steel valves). Titanium valves reduce reciprocating mass for faster-revving, plus reduced frictional losses for smoother-hitting power delivery across the rev range. Intake valves are 30mm in diameter, while the steel exhaust valves are 24.5mm in diameter.

Steep valve angles, 11.5 degrees on the intake side and 12.5 degrees on the exhaust produce a more compact combustion chamber.

Dual electrode NGK CR9EK spark plug is located in the centre of the combustion chamber for fast, controlled combustion and great throttle response.

Ceramic composite cylinder provides excellent heat dissipation for consistent power delivery, reduced oil consumption, reduced friction for increased power and reduced weight.

Special cylinder design features cutaways that allow the air "trapped" under the piston to enter a side chamber (or cutaway) to reduce horsepower-robbing "pumping losses."

Special design crankcases also utilize cutaways to reduce "pumping losses." The crankcase cutaways match the cutaways in the cylinder to reduce 'pumping losses.

The crankcases feature a "tri-axis" design for the crankshaft, main and drive axles. This tri-axis design keeps the crankcases more compact while also centralizing mass for better handling. All of the shafts are positioned low in the cases to maintain a low centre of gravity for great handling and maneuverability.

Lightweight, high strength, short-skirt, forged aluminum piston provides great durability and its lightweight design means fast engine response.

Lightweight roller bearing style crankshaft with optimized mass delivers excellent response and strong acceleration.

Single balancer shaft reduces vibration for improved rider comfort and reduced rider fatigue. This bike can cruise at highway speeds comfortably.

Special design high performance camshafts (intake & exhaust) provide outstanding class leading power. The cams feature a WPC (Wonder Process Craft) treatment that increases surface hardness for great durability and reduced sliding resistance.

Wet sump lubrication system is used. This system reduces weight and the number of moving parts versus a dry sump system. Piston oil cooler nozzle is used to maintain consistent piston temperatures for durability.

Oil volume in engine has been optimized to reduce weight and oil "drag" related power losses.

Easy access paper-type oil filter is used.

Compact design "clip stopper"- type hydraulic automatic cam chain tensioner reduces maintenance and mechanical engine noise.

38mm, Mikuni electronic throttle body type fuel injection system is used (38EIS). This system is a return-less FI system with TPS (throttle position sensor). This system provides excellent throttle response, great fuel economy, reduced emissions and a choke-free design. Throttle response and acceleration are excellent.

Long nozzle type 12 hole injector is used and provides a dual spray pattern for best in class performance.

Easy to service 4.1 liter airbox with an intake control valve provides state of the art intake and emission control. The foam air filter is a washable design

Compact 16 bit ECU features 3D ignition mapping to accommodate the engine power characteristics. The ECU provides optimal timing at all rpms for fast engine response.

Lightweight direct ignition coil is integrated into the plug cap to reduce weight and complexity

Wide ratio 6-speed transmission features gear ratios designed for both on and off road riding. This transmission adopts a "shower type" lubrication system for great reliability.

Heavy-duty clutch matches engine output and offers a light, progressive clutch feel with less lever effort for smoother shifting.

Quick-access, lightweight aluminum outer clutch cover allows fast, easy access to the clutch.

Single, 9.5KW rad is used. The "exhausted air" (after it has passed through the rad) is directed away from the rider for excellent rider comfort. An electric cooling fan maintains consistent engine temperatures even in stop and go traffic. The single rad is located on the left side of the fuel tank.

Lightweight, compact "rare-earth-type" ACM (Alternative Current Magnet … 14V & 350W output) is used.

Lightweight exhaust system features a stainless steel header pipe and a compact 3-stage expansion type upswept muffler with a honeycomb catalytic converter to reduce exhaust emissions. This system maximizes engine power and allows hassle-free replacement of the oil filter. It features a cleanable screen-type spark arrestor. Heat shields protect rider and passenger.

The exhaust system also features Yamaha's EXUP System (Exhaust Ultimate Power Valve). The single butterfly valve prevents the "blow back" phenomenon caused by "valve overlap". The EXUP system eliminates "flat spots" in the power band and reduces emissions too.

Solenoid activated AIS (Air Induction System) reduces harmful exhaust emissions like carbon dioxide and hydro carbons.

Chassis/Suspension:

Lightweight, compact aluminum semi-double-cradle frame features a variety of components. The main frame is cast aluminum, while forged aluminum is used under the main frame below the steering head area and separate detachable down tubes are thin walled high tensile steel. Yamaha has maintained the semi double cradle design to allow for "controlled flex" to optimize suspension action. This frame design provides a low centre of gravity for a light feel and razor sharp handling, plus less rider fatigue, and excellent stability.

Detachable high tensile steel rear sub frame is constructed of round steel pipe. The detachable design provides easy rear suspension access and reduces costs in the event of loop out. .

Lightweight, tapered, aluminum swingarm features a mix of extruded, cast and forged parts. The main arms are extruded while the cross member at the front is cast and the rear portion at the chain adjusters are forged. This unique rear arm provides the best rigidity-strength balance plus a dynamic look too. The suspension links are located below the arm to maintain a low center of gravity for razor sharp handling.

46mm, adjustable inverted, Kayaba cartridge fork provide excellent suspension performance. Front wheel travel is 270mm (10.6"). Front fork adjustments include: 20-way compression damping and 19-way rebound damping. NOTE: The fork settings are different and unique for the X / Supermoto version

Cast aluminum upper triple clamp and forged aluminum lower triple clamp reduces weight and provides excellent strength. The steering stem is light weight aluminum. The fork features a 25mm offset and a 28mm axle offset for great stability and neutral steering characteristics.

Competition YZ inspired "cantilever style" fork protectors wrap around the fork tubes for increased protection against dirt, mud and stone chips. These fork protectors are self-supporting to reduce friction for smoother fork operation.

Monocross rear suspension system features a fully adjustable, SOQI piggy-back style shock. The damping rod is 14mm in diameter while the actual shock body is 46mm in diameter. Rear shock adjustments include: spring preload, 12 way compression damping and 22 way rebound damping. Rear wheel travel is 265mm (10.4"). NOTE: The rear shock settings are different and unique for the X / Supermoto version.

Link-type rear suspension provides a rising rate (progressive) suspension function. The linkage design is very similar to those used on the YZ/WR competition line-up.

Large, stainless 298mm fully floating front disc brake with "wave style" rotor is squeezed by a twin piston Nissin caliper fitted with lightweight 27mm aluminum pistons. Nissin front master cylinder features a 12.7mm piston. Braking performance is excellent. Sintered metal pads are used

Stainless 230mm rear disc utilizes a lightweight "wave style" rotor. The Nissin single piston caliper with 11mm piston and an integrated Nissin rear master cylinder (fluid reservoir is integrated into the top of the master cylinder to reduce weight) delivers strong, progressive stopping power with excellent control and feel. Sintered metal pads are used

Rugged yet light aluminum DID 17" (17 x MT3.00) front and 17" (17 x MT4.00) rear rims provide exceptional durability and help reduce unsprung weight for optimal suspension performance. Both rims utilize straight pull spokes.

Engine:

Ultra-lightweight 998cc, DOHC, 20-valve, liquid-cooled, 40 degree inclined, in-line four-cylinder engine. The engine has been tuned to provide outstanding performance and excellent passing performance.

The crankcases, pistons, cylinder and cylinder head are based on the 3rd generation R1 powerplant ('04 to '06).

Combustion chamber design and squish area has been optimized for maximum sports performance. The compression ratio for the FZ1 is 11.5:1. Redline is set at 12,000 rpm and features a "soft" rev limiter to protect the engine.

Special lightweight, high lift, high performance intake and exhaust cams help to provide incredible horsepower and fast engine response. Cam profiles and the cam timing are designed to provide for more low to midrange power (Vs R1) .

Automatic cam chain tensioner reduces both maintenance and engine mechanical noise.

Lightweight, 3rd generation R1 based crankshaft provides quick engine response.

Connecting rods are carburized and use a nutless design. The lower end "cap" of the rod is made from the same piece of material as the upper portion, this design is known as "fracture splitting". This design aids establishing true big end roundness and greater precision in con rod dimensions.

Closed deck cylinder design allows the cylinders to be spaced more closely together, allowing a narrower engine. The cylinder block is a stand-alone part. The benefit if this design is improved sealing, and easier serviceability.

Ceramic composite cylinder "bores" are a "liner less" design with the ceramic coating sprayed directly on the aluminum block to ensure great heat dissipation for consistent power delivery, reduced friction and reduced weight.

Short skirt, lightweight forged piston design features special ribs in the piston pin area for great rigidity.

3rd generation R1 inspired "stacked" 3-axis gearbox / clutch design stacks input/output shafts to create a low center of gravity and keeps overall engine size shorter front to back. As a result, the stacked design gives the engineers the freedom to place the engine in the frame for optimum front to rear weight balance and thereby maximizing handling

Smooth shifting 6-speed transmission features optimized gear ratios for maximum performance in the "real world". 5th and 6th ratios are wider for reduced engine rpms at highway speeds for more relaxed cruising.

Compact, heavy duty, multi-plate clutch ensures consistent, positive engagement.

This design uses coil springs (5) and paper based fiber plates (9) to reduce weight.

Mikuni fuel injection system is based on the 2006 R1 design, featuring 45mm throttle bodies fitted with T.P.S. (Throttle Position Sensor). This style of fuel injection uses dual valve throttle bodies with motor driven sub or secondary throttle valves for optimum throttle response.

The actual injectors are Denso "long nose" type injectors with a high dynamic range and 4-spray holes for excellent power and response across the entire rev range.

Specially designed 8.2-liter air box with intake air temperature sensor maximizes performance. A viscous type air filter is utilized.

The fuel injection's lightweight Electronic Control Unit (ECU) utilizes a powerful 32-bit processor for faster control of the injection process. The compact design also reduces weight.

Yamaha's patented Exhaust Ultimate Power Valve (EXUP) monitors engine rpm and adjusts exhaust flow for maximum performance at all rpms with no flat spots. This system also optimizes fuel economy and reduces emissions.

4 into 2 into 1 exhaust system features chamber-less, stainless steel exhaust pipes and a short design silencer / muffler. The header pipe length has been optimized for maximum power delivery. This system is fitted with two 3-way honeycomb catalyziers with an oxygen sensor to reduce harmful CO and HC exhaust emissions. This EXUP valve is a single axis design.

High-efficiency curved radiator features compact dual ring-type fans for maximum cooling efficiency. This rad and fan design produces more airflow than conventional flat design rads to maintain optimum engine temperatures for consistent power output. The curved design also allows a shorter wheelbase.

Large liquid-cooled oil cooler maintains stable lubricant temperatures for extended engine life. Convenient cartridge style spin-off oil filter.

Convenient clutch cover sightglass ensures easy oil level inspection.

Maintenance-free transistor-controlled digital ignition ensures great performance at all rpms.

Air Induction System (AIS … not ram air) reduces harmful HC and CO emissions for a cleaner environment.

Chassis/Suspension:

Die cast lightweight aluminum twin spar frame provides an optimized rigidity balance for incredible sports handling. The engine is a stressed member of the chassis, allowing a lighter main frame design without sacrificing stability and light, agile handling qualities.

The riding position which is one of the most important features of the FZ1 offers a balance between a sporty riding position and great rider comfort.

Key chassis geometry figures include: 51% front and 49 % rear weight balance, 25 degrees of rake and 109 mm of trail. The 47 degree lean angle highlights the FZ1 sporty side.

Lightweight, detachable rear sub frame allows easy access to rear suspension components and reduces costs in the event of a "loop-out".

C.F. (Controlled Filling) die cast truss-type rear swingarm offers great rear wheel control and traction for razor-sharp cornering and superb stability at speed. The long 629mm arm helps to minimize the effect of the chain tension on the bike's handling.

43mm Kayaba inverted cartridge style fork is fully adjustable and offers 130mm (5.1") of wheel travel. This fork features independent damping adjustments for compression and rebound via a one way port that separates the two functions. Adjustments include: spring preload, 26-way compression damping and 26-way rebound damping. The adjustable design allows the rider to tailor suspension settings to match rider weight and road /track conditions to maximize handling and suspension performance.

Lightweight aluminum upper triple clamp features a 25mm offset for sportier handling.

2009 Yamaha FJR1300AE Features:

Engine:

1298cc, DOHC, 16-valve, liquid-cooled in-line four engine delivers massive power and torque (145 hp @ 8500 rpm and 99.1 ft-lbs of torque @ 6000 rpm) for an unequaled spread of muscle over a wide RPM range. Red line is a low 9,000 rpm for extended engine life.

State-of-the-art engine uses advanced technology found on the legendary R1 such as a slant block design, stacked "Tri-Axis" transmission, fuel injection etc.

One-piece cylinder and upper crankcase assembly provides tremendous engine rigidity that's lighter and stiffer than two-piece designs.

Engine is a fully stressed chassis member, allowing for a lightweight frame design.

Lightweight forged pistons with carburized connecting rods provide superb strength and reduced reciprocating mass for outstanding engine response and durability.

Ceramic composite cylinder bores ensure greater heat dissipation, reduced frictional losses and extended cylinder wear life.

Specially designed four-valve per cylinder head features compact, side-driven double-overhead camshafts providing outstanding low to mid rpm torque and horsepower for effortless sport touring and effortless passing power.

Advanced electronic fuel injection (EFI) system is ideal for long-distance sport-touring. The 42mm throttle body fuel injection system with 4-hole Nippon injectors delivering crisp, seamless throttle response regardless of weather or altitude. This system also enhances fuel economy, reduces emissions and offers instant, choke-free starting.

EFI system features a Throttle Position Sensor (TPS), which monitors throttle position and, in conjunction with a variety of sensors (air intake temperature/pressure, atmospheric pressure, coolant temperature, crankshaft position and engine rpm), ensures precise injection intervals and ignition timing for optimal engine performance.

Revised throttle pulley shape for improved driveability … smoother throttle action and improved throttle feeling (throttle cables connect to the throttle pulley which is connected to the throttle bodies).

Specially designed, low-vibration crankshaft features two gear-driven secondary counterbalancers delivering a smooth ride, which enhances both rider and passenger comfort.

Compact engine design uses a stacked "Tri-Axis" transmission (transmission shafts are stacked to minimize powerplant size front to back). The stacked design reduces engine length and centralizes mass, thereby allowing the engineers the ability to place the engine in the "sweet spot" of the frame for optimized front and rear weight distribution which provides excellent handling characteristics.

Revolutionary wide ratio, 5-speed transmission with Yamaha's Chip Control Shifting (YCC-S) utilizes widely spaced gear ratios to deliver relaxed long-distance sport touring performance combined with seamless acceleration … all without a have to engage or disengage a clutch.

Yamaha Chip Controlled shifting (YCC-S) is an industry first on a sport touring machine. The most noticeable difference is the lack of a clutch lever on the FJR1300AE. The YCC-S system uses two electronically controlled actuators … one for the clutch and one for shifting. The rider has the option of shifting with via a conveniently located handlebar switch or using the conventional foot shifter. The big difference is there is no clutching involved. Shift changes are smoother than a conventional manual clutch system and the foot shifter effort has been reduced with this system. The benefit is improved rider comfort due to the elimination of clutch hand fatigue especially in stop and go traffic plus reduced foot shifter effort. NOTE: This system is not an automatic shift system … the rider still must shift the bike, but without worrying about the clutch.

Special scissors-type primary driven gear helps prevent drivetrain backlash and significantly reduces transmission noise for great rider comfort.

Clean, quiet shaft drive system is super-durable and low maintenance. This system features mechanical cam dampers in the drive pinion for quieter, smoother power delivery to the rear wheel.

4-into-1-into-2 stainless steel exhaust optimizes engine performance across the power band and utilizes four three-way catalytic converters to reduce emissions. Two are located in the junction "box" under the engine and one in each muffler. Combined with the Air Induction System (AIS), the FJR1300AE is one of the cleanest-running large-capacity motorcycle engines ever built. It easily exceeds the strict European EU-3 emission standards.

Heated oxygen sensor (O2) provides precise fuel - air ratio information to the fuel injection system to reduce emissions even further, especially at lower engine temperatures.

Curved radiator uses twin "ring-type" fans for great heat dissipation and to aid in moving the hot air out of the cowl area for optimized air management and less heat to the rider. Ring type fans "pulls" more air than a conventional type fan.

Easy-access cartridge-type spin-on oil filter makes oil changes a snap.

High capacity oil filter and large volume of engine oil (5 litres) provides extended service intervals between oil changes.

Excessive lean angle cutout switch prevents the engine from running in the event of a tip over. The switch will activate at 70 degrees.

Chassis/Suspension:

Cast aluminum twin spar, diamond-type frame, features massive twin spars. This frame design is incredibly light and extremely rigid, the perfect combination for sharp, sportbike-like handling.

Fully detachable aluminum rear subframe helps reduce weight while permitting easier rear shock access/maintenance.

Lightweight, cast aluminum swingarm. The special swingarm design incorporates the shaft drive into its left side to reduce unsprung weight for incredible handling and suspension performance.

Key chassis geometry figures include: caster or rake angle = 26 degrees and trail of 109mm.

Fully adjustable 48mm cartridge-style forks offer 135mm (5.4") of wheel travel. The adjustable design allows the rider to tailor suspension settings to match rider weight, load and road conditions. Fork adjustments include: 5 - way spring preload, 21 - way compression damping and 17 - way rebound damping.

Adjustable link Monocross rear suspension with 125mm (4.8") of wheel travel features a handy, two-stage (hard/soft) spring preload adjustment lever that allows the rider to easily switch between solo and two-up preload settings. Other rear shock adjustments include: 18 - way rebound damping.

Dual 320mm front discs are squeezed by Nissin 4-piston calipers with independent brake pads for each piston. Computer controlled ABS is now standard on the FJR1300AE.

The ABS or Anti Lock Braking System features a linear controlled 3 position, an ECU integrated compact hydraulic unit and active type wheel sensors. The benefit of ABS is excellent control under hard braking or braking on wet or slippery surfaces. The ABS system prevents wheel lock up.

Unified braking system with computer controlled ABS. When the front brake is applied, all 4 - LHS front caliper pistons are activated, while only the "upper" two pistons on the RHS front caliper are activated. When applying the rear brake, both rear caliper pistons are activated plus the two lower pistons on the front RHS caliper.

282mm rear disc brake with opposed piston caliper provide outstanding stopping power. The caliper is mounted on the swingarm to reduce torque action for superior suspension and handling performance. The rear brake ABS system is also computer controlled.

Lightweight cast-aluminum 3-spoke wheels are fitted with 120/70-ZR17 front and 180/55-ZR17 rear radial tires perfectly suited to both spirited solo riding or long-range trekking.

Adjustable handlebars offers three positions of adjustability. From the centre position, the bars can be adjusted 5.5 mm forward or 5.5 mm back towards the rider. Total adjustment range is 11 mm

Additional Features:

Stylish yet aerodynamic full fairing provides excellent wind and weather protection. Air flow management has been optimized to reduce the amount of heat that flows to the rider. There are vents on the outside of each headlight to allow cool air into the cockpit and fuel tank areas. There is also a fresh air vent below the instrument assembly.

Middle cowl features a 2 - position adjustable visor / vent. The adjustment range is 30mm via quick turn fasteners. The rider can adjust these vents (30 mm / 1.2" range) to allow more or less air toward the rider's hip and leg area.

Small item storage compartment is located in the upper left side of the fairing. Inside this compartment is a 12 volt 30 watt DC power outlet for added convenience. The lid can be opened when the ignition is turned on. Its 1 liter capacity is perfect for small items such as cell phone, wallet, garage door opener etc.

R1-inspired cat-eye dual 60/55-watt multi-reflector halogen headlights can be easily adjusted for two up riding. Left and right sides can be independently adjusted via conveniently located screw type knobs.

Sleek tailsection helps reduce drag and features a sturdy rear passenger grabrail that can double as a small rack.

Quick-release luggage mounts mean fast removal of the 30 litre colour matched hard saddlebags. The FJR1300AE has been designed to look great with or without the saddlebags installed. It takes mere seconds to install or remove the locking saddlebags or optional top case.

Adjustable, two-piece seat features an adjustment range of 20mm (0.8") for the rider portion of the seat. There are two steps of adjustment via specially designed eccentric rubbers. Different foam densities for the front and rear sections, ensure plush comfort for both rider and passenger.

Ergonomically shaped, large-capacity 25-litre fuel tank offers an excellent riding range, and is constructed of steel allowing for the use of magnetic tank bags. The reserve portion is 5 liters. The under side of the tank improves air management.
